Technical Product Manager at Hudl (Boston, MA)

Do you love sports and technology? Good. Because for you, there isn’t a better PM job on the planet.

Hudl builds software that helps sports teams connect around the video and data they need to win. Coaches and athletes love us because we make watching and analyzing video on their phone, tablet, or browser so damn easy. We work with over 300,000 coaches and 1,000,000 athletes across 20 sports from Pop Warner to the pros.

Dominating this role means you:

  • Love challenging yourself and learning new technologies at a high level to help guide the product, even if you aren't a developer.

  • Can confidently communicate with a developer and distill that conversation into the correct messaging for the entire company.

  • Lead the team from start to finish - concepting, building, deploying, and learning from what just went out the door (often, start to finish is a matter of hours).

  • Can deftly scope a big, bold vision down to bite-sized work items and execute them.

  • Focus on product excellence almost as much as process excellence and can play a major role in user research, design brainstorming, and product decisions.

  • Are familiar with agile/scrum/kanban/DevOps with a sixth-sense when it comes to the right amount of process for a task.

Some products we're working on now:

  • We are embedding with other product team squads (our customers) to create a custom deploy tool used for deployment to 35+ test environments and for up to 40 production deploys daily.

  • We're taking charge of the Information Architecture of Hudl as well as building front-end libraries and components (think Twitter Bootstrap) to make our products consistent and development lightning fast.

  • Two years into a transition from a Monolithic to Microservices architecture, we are focussing on adding new features to make distributed system programming easier. A recent feature addition enables durable asynchronous processing via RabbitMQ.

  • We are building out our automated regression suite of tools to make writing and maintaining tests for web, iOS and Android easier. In addition to frameworks we are writing tools to make running the suite or sub-sets of the suite easy, education and documentation so others can focus on authoring their own tests.

  • Using Chef to provision each of our server types. This effort will enable better auto-scaling of our application servers and position us to move from EC2-Classic to VPC.

  • Building out our Data Warehouse using S3, EMR, Hive and Spark to enable any Hudl employee to ask and answer questions across our various data sources. This includes application and server logs, SQL Server, MongoDB, ZenDesk, Jira, etc.

  • Today our application is within a single AWS region. We are preparing to enable multi-region deployments to ensure fast performance globally.

We:

  • Believe culture matters more than anything else.

  • Are a team of nerds, designers, marketers and former jocks who love sports and tech.

  • Have a profitable, kick-ass product that is changing coaches’ and athletes’ lives.

  • Are as passionate about winning as the people we serve.

  • Want you to learn something every day.

  • Promise you’ll love coming to work every day.

Working with Us, You Can:

  • Enjoy an unlimited vacation policy.

  • Sleep soundly with our paid health insurance and retirement plans.

  • Get hooked up with free tickets to Div. I and professional sporting events.

  • Stuff yourself at daily company-sponsored lunches.

  • Energize with free food, soda and coffee.
