San Luis Obispo County is accepting applications for NETWORK SECURITY ENGINEER.

The County is implementing a number of exciting IT initiatives, which require staff to provide creative solutions across the County's diverse organization. We are looking for talented information technology professionals to join our team. You will be asked to lead and successfully complete technical projects as a team member and as an individual contributor.

The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have a strong proficiency in Cisco Internetworking, IP MPLS, Scripting, Cisco ASA Firewalls, IPS/IDS, and complex enterprise networks. You must have the ability to organize, lead, and successfully complete technical projects and be skilled at process automation and reengineering. Those individuals who embrace identifying new ways of doing things and who are not afraid to try new ideas are ideal candidates for this position.
Typical Tasks and Representative Duties:
(Not in order of importance)
• Performs a variety of activities related to the analysis, installation, programming, application and troubleshooting of networking systems and related equipment for County needs.
• Coordinates information and resources to assure proper and timely installation, maintenance, modification and repair of network systems, equipment and devices; administers, evaluates and modifies network systems to assure proper security and operation; monitors and inspects projects to assure accuracy, completeness and compliance with County technology and proper adaptation with existing systems.
• Provides technical support and assistance to network customers; participates in answering and directing questions and concerns from County personnel, departments and internal department inquiries; assists field technicians with installation, network connection and other technical issues as required.
• Performs a variety of preventive security monitoring activities; evaluates systems for unnecessary or unsafe activities and develops solutions to avoid exposures; identifies and corrects errors and performance flaws; performs regular backups of operating systems to assure adequate network information availability.
• Participates in a variety of other assigned activities such as developing and maintaining procedural manuals, flow charts and diagrams.
• Designs, implements, monitors and maintains enterprise networks using LAN/WAN inter-networking technology, including network protocols and management systems, using diagnostic tools.
• Configures, installs, operates and maintains network hardware, appliances, software and related servers.
• Works with data circuit providers to install, configure and troubleshoot circuits.
• Evaluates and recommends network hardware and related hardware and software.

• Provide training, technical support and assistance to network customers
• Design, develop and implement new networks or network modifications and design solutions for network problems and malfunctions

• Comprehend information and instructions concerning work duties and answer questions regarding assigned tasks

Education and Experience:
An associates degree or 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university or completion from a job-related, accredited vocational institution; (Job related experience involving the analysis, installation, programming, application and/or troubleshooting of networking systems and related equipment may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis).
Licenses and Certificates:
A valid driver’s license is required at the time of application. A valid CALIFORNIA driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
